Stanford PhD as Taxi Driver in Singapore
Recently, at many major forums there is this regarding a taxi driver in Singapore. He got a PhD degree from Standford (yes, no kidding, not sure if he put his cert in the taxi, he should do that). And he is one of the top researchers in Singapore A*Star with 16 years as Principal Investigator (as claimed in his blog Taxi Driver Blog). But now, he is working as a taxi driver, read his blog for his sad story.
I try to look for his photo, but this is what I get:
Photos from http://www.imcb.a-star.edu.sg/newsarchive/071107a.php . Apparently all other 4 authors are there in the photo besides him. And New Straights Times has a photo of him.

Join Asia's 1st App Store Event
While apps stores will not be the main revenue generators for many handset manufacturers, platform vendors or operators, many of them are jumping on the bandwagon in hopes that their apps stores will help them sell more and keep customers loyal.
In 2008, analysts estimated that sales of these applications added up to less than US$1 billion. However, a report from Juniper Research projects that revenue from consumer mobile applications will exceed US$25 billion by 2014.
The upcoming AppStore Asia conference will be Asia's first-ever event to focus on this much-discussed business model.
From building an Apps Store to product delivery, this high-level conference will address topics such as the impact of cloud computing on mobile apps, obstacles to future growth, monetization models and more.
For more information about the conference, visit the event website at http://www.appstoreasia.com/

Hong Kong Salary Information
Hong Kong is one of the closest city to Singapore. So lets take a look on their salary range based on these newspaper cutting.
For example: Chief Financial Officer with 8 to 10 years experience may get HKD80k and above, that is more than SGD 16k per month. But of course that is the extreme case. For an accountant with 3 to 6 years experience, may get HKD 25k, that is about SGD 5k per month. Click on the images below to enlarge to get a better reading.
Seems like the salary is on general slightly higher or about the same to Singapore. But the living expenses is higher at Hong Kong, and of course much more fun at Hong Kong.

A Guide to Good Pronunciation
We communicate with each other largely through speech. Clear and accurate pronunciation is therefore immensely important. At times, however, we may be stumped by questions such as the following: How should we pronounce the words anemone, lapel or hyperbole? Which syllable in Singapore should we stress? Do we pronounce the l in salmon? And are there any common words in English that are frequently mispronounced?
Such questions on pronunciation may seem endless, but the solution is not as difficult as we may think. With a good dictionary, and knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and some simple rules of pronunciation, most of us will be able to find out very quickly the proper pronunciation of various words, and the differences, if any, in how they are pronounced in the major varieties of English (e.g. American English, British English).
In this course, participants will be taught the IPA, which is used in many dictionaries, to help them pronounce words accurately. Participants will also learn about rules of pronunciation, intonation patterns, and rhythm of natural speech.
