13k hired in public sector in first months of 2009

Under this recession, jobs are not easy to find, and you may notice most jobs advertise are government link or related. It was reported in Straits Times that the public sector has hired more than 13,000 people in the first five months of this year.

And do you know that this is almost three-quarters of the 18,000 jobs in ministries, statutory boards and other agencies that it planned to fill in the next two years. So not sure what will happen for the rest of the year, no more job available?

The jobs went to school-leavers and mid-career professionals. And Singapore public sector is the Singapore's largest employer. It employs about 110,000 people, or about 4 per cent of the total labour force here.
